Glitter Deer.

I saw something like this on the P word....ya know Pinterest!  I thought well shoot I could do that and even better Liv could help me.  You know how little hands always want to help, in the most helpful yet not helpful way! So here is how you do it.

First you need.  A image. (I googled deer heads and found one I liked).  Modge Podge or glue.  Canvas or scrap piece of wood, Glitter, paint, and brush.   I am talked easy peasy with this. Seriously we did this in a matter of 30 mins.

First if needed sand your wood down on the edges.

Paint your board or canvas the color of your choice. And yes I let her do this. My motherhood motto is, how will you ever expect them to learn unless you let them try.  (that includes painting)

Cut our your deer stencil. I started at the bottom and cut around. Keep in mind that you are using the interior of the deer head as your stencil so try and keep it pretty clean and cut as precise as you want. Then tape the bottom of your first cut, making it one piece again.

Then use modge podge or glue, putting enough in the center that you think the glitter will stick.
I also taped down parts of my deer to make sure it didn't move around.

I added a bowtie to mine to give it a little extra something something.

Studio 5. Pine cones, pine cones, pine cones!

I had the awesome experience being asked to go on Studio 5 today!!!
When I got the phone call, to be honest I was freaking out. Both with excitement and with absolute fear!!
What in the world.
So then I was asked to come up with 5 crafts with PINE CONES.
Pine cones are a challenge I tell ya, but I always love a good challenge.
So here is what I came up with I hope you enjoy them.
Let me know if you have any questions.

MINI TREE
I thought it would be fun to have something to spice up my table,
or I even think this would be fun to put in a kids bedroom for a fun tree.
We hiked up the canyon and borrowed some dead tree branches, spray painted them and put them in a vase.
Then I took pine cones, hot glued the ornament hooks on them, spray painted them and ta-da!

I love chandelier's or cheap ones better yet!
I purchased a 6" Styrofoam ball and started hot gluing pine cones.

I little tip is to cover the ball with scrap fabric before so open spaces won't show.
I placed it in a old vase while I added the pine cones.
During the process it reminded us of Olivia's hair so I had to draw a happy face on it.

We have to include the little ones in something right?
So I thought a pine cone version of the snow globe would be fun.
Hot glue, or just tacky glue a pine cone to a mason jar, add some fake Walmart snow and there ya have it.
I took an old paper plate from last years decorations and cut it out for a lid topper.

I love windows and doors. And if you have ever been my house you know this is true.
So I wanted to add something to this old window to spice it up.
Plus I will add Liv's stocking to this and there ya go, my version of a fireplace mantel.

If you are not a fan of actual pine cones but like the look, here's the craft for you.
You will need:
Styrofoam egg, Ribbon 7/8", scissors, pins and a good tv show to sit and watch.

Start by cutting about 60-70 pieces of ribbon.
Each piece will be approx 1 3/4".
The key is to make sure that when you fold the two pieces it makes to triangles.
(you won't pin it like I have done, I just did that to show you for the picture)

Then you will take one of your piece and pin it to the tip of the egg.
Since that part wouldn't be able to be covered.

Then start pinning. You will start by added 4, for the first row.

THE KEY TO THIS PROJECT IS TO PLACE THE RIBBON BETWEEN THE TWO RIBBONS PLACE ON THE PREVIOUS ROW!
Rows 2-4 will be just placing them the best you can. Since it's a egg shape, you kind of have to do your best but don't worry, They will be covered up by the rows that follow.

Christmas Eve

Usually for Christmas Eve we go over to Cathy and Brians for the festivities.  This year we spiced it up a bit and went over to Cort and Mel's. It was so much fun to get together and Olivia loved playing with the kids.  Before you start thinking that I have completly abandoded my motherly duties and let Olivia dress herself in who knows what, let me explain. Obviously they did the story of the Nativity, duh! Can't you tell? Don't you see Mary and Joseph, wise men (and girl) and hello the shepards!!!

This was classic. Honestly one of my favorite moments as a mother so far. Crazy right.
First of all. all the kids got to dress themselves. Enough said. But what I love the most about it was what Olivia picked out. Of course there had to be some resemblance of Toy Story in there somehow, someway.  Thus the Jessie pants.  Then the ballerina leotard.  Love it.  And the hat, really need I say more.

It was so fun to see these little munchkins act it out. And they know the story, it's so sweet.  They all took it so seriously. I have NEVER, even in her sleep, seen Livvy sit so still and be serious.
It was a fun night with great company and good memories.

Sorry the pictures are awful my camera is acting crappy and I really am in need of a good flash.
So please accept my apologies!

Merry Christmas 2010!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!!
It's been a year full of memories that we can cherish forever.

It's a Wonderful Life.

Tonight we decided to get out of the house and go for a drive to see Christmas lights. In years past there has been an amazing home in American Fork, near the Timpangos Temple in a private gated neighborhood. This house was out of this world. It put the Griswalds to shame! They actually had a radio station dedicated during the month of December with music that went along with the lights flashing and twinkling!

Anyways we pulled up to the gates and they were closed. Bummer with a capital B! We could see into the neighborhood and every other house was lit up but that one. So we determined that there was either a falling out in the neighborhood and they put a ban on this family from going all out, or they moved and someone who doesn't
celebrate Christmas moved in.

This year is different than in years past. We aren't doing anything for each other and Santa is only bringing a few items for Olivia. We can get away with it this year since she is still so young. To be honest I have my moments where I feel sorry for myself. This year it doesn't seem like Christmas at all. We haven't been able to attend any of the parties because of illness, funerals, etc. So I have 7 more days to feel the joy! On the other hand I haven't been stressed at all. When the well is dry you have to be creative with how you show your love and spread your Cheer. I haven't had to feel the pressures of mad crazy shoppers, fighting for parking spots, running around stressed about what to get for someone who already has everything.

So when we got home from our uneventful trip out, we decided to watch "It's A Wonderful Life". I sadly have to admit the I have NEVER seen this movie. Watching old movies reminds me of when I was little and my mom would iron everything in site, and I would watch old classics with her. Anyways I LOVED IT!! So many funny moments and quotes that made you think.

{So these pictures are from a few weeks ago when we put up our tree but I at least wanted to post them for my memories and so they don't get lost in the thousands of pictures}

{Sometimes I just like the side profile of Olivia, because I can see her somber face, but I know her mind is going a million miles an hour. Oh to be a child again}

Dear Santa......

All she wants for Christmas is.......

Ok we have NO idea since she can't talk yet. But I think I have a few ideas. She loves Elmo, coloring, anything to keep this child busy and out of the pantry and getting into the powdered sugar!

We decided to risk the embarrassment and take her to see Santa. He was a rocking Santa, not to social and looked very tired. Poor Santa needed a nap I think. But as we got closer we did the usual parenting thing, overreact on how cool this was and make goofy facial expressions.
She wasn't to sure about it and as you can see she was stiff as a board. This was the quietest I have EVER seen this child. Even more than when she is sleeping. Maybe we can have Santa come to church with us and sit next to us during Sacrament meeting.
But we did it, No tears, No screaming, Not even a smile! She did however light up when he handed her a sucker.

I love it, she looks like she has just seen a ghost!
