Get your scrap piece of fabric.
Make sure it is long enough to wrap around your jar or container.
Cut the fabric so that you have about 1 1/2 inches from the top to hang over.
Cutting your strips to about 1 1/2 inches wide. Don't go any wider than that, it becomes to hard for the fabric to stick around the corners.
The key to this is CLEAR Elmers Glue. Don't use the regular white, it will turn your fabric yellow.
Then mix 2:1 ratio of glue and water.
You want it to be a runny substance. You can always add a little more glue if your worried it won't stick.
Then you stick the end of the fabric piece in the bowl of glue just to get it started.
Then I take a good brush and insert the fabric at the bottom of the jar.
(It is easier to start at the middle of the jar and not on one of the corners)
Then you just use your brush to smooth out the fabric making sure that your entire piece is covered in glue. You may have to hold it in place for a few seconds.
Then let it air dry overnight. Don't put the lid on your canister or jar until it is dry.
If it doesn't complete stick at the tops, you can always add a tiny drop of hot glue to hold it in place.
