Grandpa's Funeral

My grandpa's funeral was on Friday. I hate funerals. I often think about what I would want mine to be like (a little creepy I know) but ever since Becca died I really do not like them. It brings back bad memories. Trust me I try and focus on the good memories and the celebration of that person's life, however I can't help but get so sad.

When we arrived that morning to practice the song that the grandchildren were going to be singing, I couldn't even make it through the first verse before I busted up into tears. Like someone said, you can tell that we all loved Grandpa enough to get up an sing. Let's just say we Are Not Singers!!!

It was beutiful though. What a site. His wife, his four daughters, his son-in-laws, his grandchidren and great grandchildren all except one serving a mission and many friends and family. What a legacy this man has led. What I recalled mostly from his funeral what the fact that EVERYONE felt like they were his favorite. And that is due to to the fact that he made you feel always that way. I always thought I was his favorite but it turns out all of his other grandchildren thought the same thing. That was the type of man that he was, just as my Uncle Chris said "he didn't have time for hobbies, his wife and daugthers were his hobby". And he was happy with that.

I was doing ok, until they went to close the casket. After Curt's amazing family prayer it was time. I couldn't even watch and will never forget my Grandma's reaction. I worry so much about her. I pray that she will get through this.

It's times like his when I realize how freaking awesome my family is. Besides the fact that all the men looked like the were part of the Mafia, and the women are amazingly gorgeous. They are all wonderful. We all have our quirky moments and our issues but the best thing is we are ALWAYS there for each other NO MATTER WHAT. At least I hope my family feels that way about me.

Wallace Allan Danielson

1925 ~ 2009

Our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Wallace Allan Danielson, lifelong resident of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2009. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He was born in Springville on April 7, 1925 to Axel and Clarice Danielson, the oldest of four children. He was a very caring brother and son. He attended schools in Springville and graduated from Springville High School in 1943. He attended Brigham Young University. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served in the Philippines during World War II. He was proud to serve his country and received an honorable discharge at the conclusion of the war.

Upon returning to Springville he met and married his lifelong and eternal companion, Phyllis Kindred. They were married June 4, 1948. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on April 25, 1964. Together they had five daughters; Colleen, Kaye, Karen, Nedra, and Nancy who died as an infant.

He was a faithful member of the LDS church and was known as an outstanding ward and stake financial clerk. He was respected for his honesty, integrity and efficiency. He also served for many years as a member of the Hobble Creek Stake High Council. His most cherished calling was serving for 61 years as the Patriarch of his family.

Allan worked for Geneva Steel in accounting and industrial engineering for over thirty years until the plant closed. He then worked as an accountant for Water Works in Salt Lake City and at the Spanish Fork Foundry. He was always a dependable and valued employee and was appreciated and well liked by his fellow workers.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had the amazing capacity to make every family member feel like they were Grandpa Wally's favorite. For over thirty five years Allan, along with Phyllis, organized a family campout to Wasatch Mountain State Park. These annual campouts became the highlight of many family traditions that will be cherished by his family and continued for generations to come.

Of Allan's many hobbies, two of his most favorite were playing Rook and golfing. His happiest moment on the course was the day he scored an ace on hole number 10 at Hobble Creek while playing with his sons-in-law.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, daughters Colleen Thurston-Riverton, Utah; Kaye (Scott) Frischknecht-Centerville, Utah; Karen (Chris) Sorensen-Springville; Nedra (Todd) Asay- Aloha, Oregon; a brother Gene; 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Nancy, his parents, his brother DeMar, his sister Audrey, and twin great grandsons.

I'm so glad you had the foresight to bring a camera. It was beautiful and I'm so glad we were there. It still seems surreal. He was such a good man and will be missed.
